Hydrogen-assisted Crack Propagation in Pre-strained Twinning-induced Plasticity Steel: from Initiation at a Small Defect to Failure

چکیده
Hydrogen-assisted crack growth of pre-strained twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) steel was investigated using artificial defects (micro-drilled holes), which acted as initiation sites. Hydrogen introduced into the specimens by electrochemical hydrogen charging during slow strain rate tensile test. The quasi-cleavage propagation observed due to repeated near tip and subsequent coalescence. Crack occurred after plastic deformation tip, pre-straining facilitated plasticity-driven initiation. early stage sensitive length remote stress level. متن کاملMicrostructural evolution and phase transformation in twinning-induced plasticity steel induced by high-pressure torsion
The microstructural evolution of twinning-induced plasticity steel during high-pressure torsion (HPT) processing at 573 K was systematically evaluated. Due to the high processing temperature, the formation of a homogeneous nanostructure was primarily dominated by complicated dislocation and grain boundary activities in lieu of deformation twinning. Apart from the grain refinement process, phase...
متن کاملCement-Implant Interface Fracture Failure by Crack Initiation Due to Interface Cavity Stress Concentration
Nowadays total joint replacements are widely used in the world, so in average 800,000 joint surgeries are done yearly only in Europe and North America. However implant loosening is and remains as the major issue of all implant failures and therefore causes revision surgery procedures. Studies and experiments have identified poor fixation of implants most likely is the main cause of long term im...
متن کاملPart A- Experimental: Experimental Analysis of Crack Propagation in Pre-stressed Concrete Sleepers by Fracture Mechanics
This study investigates propagation of mode I crack in B70 pre-stressed concrete sleepers by fracture mechanics approach. A new experimental analysis is done for notched B70 pre-stressed concrete sleepers with Replica test and image analysis. A scanning electron microscope test (SEM) and an image analysis are applied for the Replica test in order to determine crack length and crack mouth openin...
متن کاملCrack Initiation and Extension in Steel for Short Loading Times
The one-point bend impact test has been used to investigate crack instability conditions for short loading times (as short as 2.5 p) in high strength steel. It was found that, in the range of loading rates investigated, no time-modified fracture criterion need be invoked. The resistance to crack extension may, however, increase significantly with crack growth due to the formation of even small ...
